Christopher Columbus could be considered to be good or evil depending on one's opinion. In my eyes Columbus would be considered evil because of his selfish ways and how he treated people in the process of his explorations.
Christopher Columbus was a greedy man whose only concerns were God, glory, and gold. To complete his exporations he had to do many things to the natives that were crul and selfish. To get God he thought that he had to try and be as good as him. So by going on exporations he was able to lead people to the new world a better world and he did this so that he could look or be one with God. Then comes the glory, Columbus was not the first person to find North America in fact he just took all the credit for it. Nothing he did on the voyages was to better the world but to better himself and make himself well known. He also borrowed money to go on his exporations from the Queen and King but then did not have any plans in repaying them but just keeping his riches. When he went to explore he went for gold too so when he returned he had plenty of money to spare but would not. These reasons to explore are all rooted to be selfish because to him God, glory, and gold were all that mattered and they were all for the good of himself.
Another way that Christopher Columbus is evil is through his treatment of the natives. He got many of them sick and they had no way of defending it because of the fact of the matter that no one could fight it off because it was a European disease. Columbus also forced the natives into becoming slaves by making them search for gold. The problem was that they did want to do that and the places he made them search were places that did not even have gold. Knowing that they would not find gold he stilled killed them. When he would carry them back to places like Spain he just throw the sick over the side. After all the dieing Columbus had wiped out a whole tribe.
Christopher Columbus was a evil man that took the blame for something good that he did not even do and then kept his riches even through he was supposed to pay his sponsers back. He did every thing in a selfish way and this is what made Christopher Columbus an evil man not a good helpful hero.

I agree with Alicia, Columbus was a villain to his intentions and treatment of his crew and the inhabitants of the Bahamas. Columbus was only interested in putting his reputation and wealth ahead and was not concerned with anything except his own benefit. He is not the hero that discovered America, how can you discover something with people already inhabiting it?
Just because some accounts of Christopher Columbus portray him as a villan does not mean that is entirely true. In fact, had Columbus not opened the door for trade and commerce with the New World, there would be little (if any) financial flow to Europe during the latter half of the Renaissance. Or at least, it would have been minimized and reduced to imports from Asia and Africa.
I agree with Alicia, because of the way Columbus treated the people. At first I was thinking he was a hero, but I believe he is more of a villan. I think that some good points were discussed in our class disscussion, that makes him more of a villan.
